About this Book:

From among the many saints and blesseds whom Pope John Paul II canonized and beatified, Barry Michaels has chosen to present, in this unique prayer book, those who have special meaing for us today: Mother Teresa, Padre Pio, Faustina, Andre Bessette, Juan Diego, and many others. Each chapter features a brief biography, inspiring quotes from or about the saint or blessed, and a novena and prayers.

Many inspiring biographies exist about these saints. Since growing in holiness doesn't come simply from reading about the saints, this book seeks to provide a concrete way not only to learn about these remarkable people as well as to grow in communion with them, to become their friends, to ask their help, and, with their help, to grow holier in and through the circumstances of one's own life.

"My work on this book taught me a lot about the holiness I am called to—and the holiness I'm not called to. I've understood more deeply that I don't have to do particular thigs or live in particular ways in order to be a saint....What I must do—as exemplified by each of these men and women—is to live out a life of faith and love, of courage and wisdom in the circumstances of life in which I find myself. I have to be holy in the context of my own life, not someone else's. ...By doing that. I'll become, with God's grace, the saint he wants me to be.

That's the reason for this book" (From the Introduction)

What Are People Saying about this Title?

"Barry Michaels powerfully shows how the 'cloud of witnesses' canonized in recent years draws us ever more deeply into the mystery of Christ's redeeming love and mercy...Novena and litany prayers open a personal devotional relationship between the reader and each saint..."
—Tom Acklin, author of The Passion of the Lamb and The Unchanging Heart of the Priesthood

"Barry Michaels has put together a handbook of beautifully written prayers to a number of recently canonized saints. Novenas and other popular devotions are often associated with what some might refer to as "pre-Vatican II" saints, but Michaels has undertaken to apply similar devotions to those who have been canonized more recently, such as St. Katherine Drexel and Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.

"Michaels has tailored the prayers to seek the intercession of each saint uniquely, asking for their help based on the types of ministries they participated in during their earthly lives. His "Prayer for the United States" has become one that I return to again and again. I highly recommend placing "Saints for our Times" among your stack of prayer and devotional books."
