How are families called to follow Christ in the world today?

About this Book:

Originally published on the solemnity of Christ the King, November 22, 1981, The Role of the Christian Family in the Modern World (Familiaris Consortio) celebrates the gift of family life. It could well be considered the magisterium's most comprehensive explanation of the nature of the family, rooting the essence of that nature in love. The apostolic exhortation offers an approach to the questions of marriage and the family and considers the call to love as the guiding light to those entrusted with their pastoral care. It also summarizes Saint John Paul II's theology of the body which can lead persons to an "ever deeper and more intense communion" (FC 18).

This special Anniversary Edition includes the full text of the original document plus new commentary that will guide you through this important apostolic exhortation.

Features & Benefits:

  • Released in time for the World Meeting of Families and Synod on the Family
  • Includes section on pastoral care for families
  • Outlines issues regarding the education of children

  • Includes helpful Ponder, Pray, and Act format

About the Commentary Authors:

John and Claire Grabowski have been married for thirty years, have been blessed with five children and are expecting their second grandchild. For over twenty years, the Grabowskis have been involved in marriage preparation and have given marriage talks and retreats as a couple. John has been on the faculty of the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., for twenty-four years. In September 2009, John and Claire were appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to serve as a member couple on the Pontifical Council for the Family. They also serve together in a "post-Cana" marriage ministry in their home parish of Saint Ignatius of Loyola in Ijamsville, Maryland.
