About this Book:

Thomas Aquinas, one of the Church's most scholarly and significant saints, may seem unapproachable: hard to understand and even more difficult to study. In this new volume of the Saints by Our Sides series, the 13th century Dominican priest becomes more than a wise and mysterious mystic. His story becomes an accessible and fascinating picture of sainthood.

Author Sr. Marianne Lorraine Trouvé, well known for her blog Thomas for Today, has spent years studying the Angelic Doctor and his writings, making her the perfect guide to help the reader understand and appreciate how he became such a stellar figure in Church history through this warm telling of his life's story. Readers who may have been intimidated by Thomas Aquinas now have the chance to learn about the struggles of his life and how they fueled his writings and life mission-and thereby glean an entry-point for reading his work. This narrative explores St. Thomas' spiritual legacy and why it's meaningful to study his writings nearly 800 years later.

The book also includes reflection questions, a prayer to St. Thomas, and a step-by-step guide on how to read an article of the Summa. For anyone looking for an engaging and attainable biography of a complex saint, or for the student hoping to gain insight on the works of Thomas Aquinas by understanding his life, this book presents those opportunities in a clearly written and compact form.

Katherine Bogner says...
This Saints by Our Side Series is intended to help bring the stories of Saints- their lives, teachings, and impact on the world- in a short and attainable text that is still packed with content. I love the length of these books (just a little over 100 pages) which makes them easy to pick up and get to know a new Saint. Each book shares a thorough biography, a chronology, an original prayer, and reflection questions, and detailed bibliography. Neither Thomas Aquinas or John of the Cross are Saints that I previously knew a lot about, so these books were a great introduction. Im excited to see how this collection from Pauline Books and Media grows! ***Pauline Books & Media provided me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Shannon Cardaronella says...
I greatly enjoyed this little book! I am a saints fan-girl and appreciate anything that helps me learn more about our brothers and sisters in Christ who succeeded so beautifully in living lives of virtue. Sr. Marianne Lorraine Trouves writing style is clean, which I appreciate. She makes the study of St. Thomas Aquinas accessible. In Nine chapters, Sister Trouve taught me about St. Thomas Aquinass childhood, his private life and personality, as well as his professional accomplishments and theology. It was interesting to learn that Thomas was at once quiet and bookish yet also had a sunny forgiving personality. In learning about him, I also learned about the challenges that the early mendicants faced. Todays apologists could take a page from Thomass book and learn from him to never attack those who hold opposing views. Challenge their views, but respect them as people. Some lessons are timeless. This was an excellent book. I look forward to reading other books in the "Saints By Our Side" series. Pauline Books & Media provided me with a free copy of "Thomas Aquinas" in exchange for an honest review."
